Dell XPS laptops are updated with Core i chips and JBL audio
Dell has given up AMD processors they based their latest Inspiron lineup on earlier this autumn, all in the name of the well-known XPS series. Yes, it has been a long time since Dell has upgraded XPSs, so this new release was taken seriously. Talking about processors, the new XPS notebooks are all Intel Core i-based and are equipped with Intel WiDi, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 400M series GPUs, JBL sound system and they are industry’s first to feature an HD webcam certified by Skype. There is a choice of three models with different screen sizes: 14-, 15.6- and 17-inches wide. Base models of Dell XPS 14, XPS 15, and XPS 17 laptops depending on screen size respectively are available under a thousand dollars, but you can order stronger pricier guts if you please. Likewise $899 XPS 14, $849 XPS 15 and $949 XPS 17 will deliver you 3D gaming fueled by an Intel Core i5, 1GB NVIDIA 420M, 4GB RAM and NVIDIA 3DTV Play software running from a 500GB HDD spinning at 7200rpm. Dell XPS laptops are already available today.

Dell Inspiron updated and ranked by VISION Technology
Dell has prepared an Inspiron notebook lineup update for this week. As you probably know, Dell is sticking with AMD lately, so both new Inspiron M5030 and Inspiron M501R in all of their available variations feature AMD processors and graphics cards. But not only that, Dell has also got into ranking their laptops as provided by VISION Technology which labels capabilities of any given computer considering all the factors so that you could judge it solely by VISION Technology sticker without going into its specifications. With this in mind, out of four stars Inspiron M5030 scores one and Inspiron M501R scores three. The reasons why M501R jumps up two steps past M5030 are down to Phenom processor and Mobility Radeon HD 5500 graphics adapter while M5030 has an Athlon II and Mobility Radeon HD 4250. I really don’t mind Athlon II but HD 4000 series is far too dated already. Take it away and you end up with I think more honest Inspiron M101z also getting one out four VISION rating.

Budget Windows 7 laptops that you should choose from
Windows 7 has been out for a month now and its sales are going very well. Analytics say most of Vista users would like to switch to the Seven if it is as good as they are told it is. But XP users, particularly on desktops, are a bit harder to convince even to try Windows 7 out. Set up and running rig with no or poor network will hardly benefit from HomeGroupe. Bare in mind stereotype that legacy hardware might not necessarily have proper performance (Windows XP FLP suddenly popped in my mind) and you might think Windows 7 will not give a new life to what has less than 1GB RAM and/or less than two processor cores. Not so. Amazingly rather than inevitably the new operating system is better than it's predecessors in the way of backward usability, the feeling that has grown cold in some since Vista's appearance. Moreover, if we switch from desktops to notebooks, Windows 7 starts to make even more sense. More on that and on best Windows 7 running laptops after the jump.

Gateway NV notebook series, we say bargain
Gateway rolls out its fresh series of very bargain-like notebooks. With prices varying between $499 and $599 you get incomparably better specs than not considerably cheaper Asus Eee PC 1008HA Seashell. The confrontation is obvious, however it is still a question whether Geteway NV series is easy to leave with. But as far as I can tell, NV's design is better than the other's in this price group. NV series notebooks will be available some time soon. Specs follow.

MSI X-Slim X600 hits Amazon with 799.99 USD on the tag
It is about now for MSI X-Slim X600 to go for sale, which it does today. At this point there are probably not many people left who are overly exited by this news because most of specs and photos have been here and there for quite a time now. In this case, the only readers to whom we should address here are those who actually already decided to get an X-Slim X600. One thing I liked about MSI notebooks was that they tend to not overprice what they are selling. X600 costs 799.99 USD at Amazon, enough to step to step back and think over purchase ones again.

Spark - new OLPC rival
There was big fuzz in the Internet when the OLPC project started; idea of making a 100 dollar priced laptop to help children of Africa and other poor regions to become closer to Internet and computer technologies was very innovative and interesting. Now it is time to announce some of its competitors. We already reviewed top 10 subnotebooks; you can read about some of them in that article, however, this one is a very different issue. It brings the low cost educational subnotebook to the UMPC side, making it even more portable. Let's look on the details.
